node.js

Node.js is a server-side JavaScript environment that uses an asynchronous event-driven model. This allows Node.js to get excellent performance based on the architectures of many Internet applications.

It’s based on Google Chrome’s very fast V8 JavaScript Engine, but deploys it on the server-side, so you get to write javascript for both client and server sides. Clever idea. Well executed. Probably the future.
